Dylan Exhibit banner and Link at Skirball Center

Bob Dylan's American Journey, 1956–1966

On view at the Skirball Cultural Center through June 8, 2008

Before emerging as arguably the most important songwriter in rock history, the man born as Robert Zimmerman grew up in a small Minnesota town. Hearkening back to his earliest days, this exhibition—organized by Experience Music Project—chronicles Dylan’s transformation from Midwestern teen to folk troubadour, artistic innovator, and compelling voice of social conscience.

Featuring more than 160 artifacts, including Dylan’s handwritten drafts of classic songs, rare concert posters and a recording of his first concert, the exhibition focuses on the first decade of his celebrated career.
